Barry Lee Thompson

Barry is from Liverpool in the UK, and is based in Footscray in Melbourne’s west. His short stories are published in Australia, the UK, and the USA, and have been recognised in literary awards including the Overland Victoria University Short Story Prize, the Museo De La Palabra International Flash Fiction Competition, the inaugural City Of Melbourne Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards (an initiative to mark Melbourne’s status as a UNESCO City Of Literature), the Bridport Prize, and The Age Short Story Award.

Broken Rules and Other Stories, his first collection of short fiction, was developed with support from the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and from Varuna, the National Writers’ House. The book will be published in May 2020 by Transit Lounge.

Barry is also a member the Varuna Alumni Association at the National Writers’ House. He holds a flash fiction diploma from the Fundación César Egido Serrano and the Museo de la Palabra, and is one of their ambassadors.
