Barry is working on a second collection of fiction, Afterdark. The project is supported by the Victorian Government’s Sustaining Creative Workers Initiative through Creative Victoria and Regional Arts Victoria.
His first book, Broken Rules and Other Stories (Transit Lounge, 2020), is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and by Varuna, the National Writers’ House. From Liverpool in the UK, Barry lives in Melbourne, Australia. His short stories are published in Australia, the UK, and the USA, and have been recognised in literary awards including the Overland Victoria University Short Story Prize, the Museo de la Palabra International Flash Fiction Competition, the inaugural City Of Melbourne Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards (an initiative to mark Melbourne’s status as a UNESCO City Of Literature), the Bridport Prize, and The Age Short Story Award.
He has been with Elwood Writers since the group’s inception in 2007. He is a member of the Varuna Alumni Association. He holds a diploma from the Fundación César Egido Serrano and the Museo de la Palabra, and is one of their ambassadors.
