Barry Lee Thompson

Broken Rules and Other Stories is Barry’s first collection of short fiction. It is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and by Varuna, the National Writers’ House. The book is published by Transit Lounge, and will be released in September 2020.

From Liverpool in the UK, he’s based in Footscray in Melbourne’s west. His short stories are published in Australia, the UK, and the USA, and have been recognised in literary awards including the Overland Victoria University Short Story Prize, the Museo De La Palabra International Flash Fiction Competition, the inaugural City Of Melbourne Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards (an initiative to mark Melbourne’s status as a UNESCO City Of Literature), the Bridport Prize, and The Age Short Story Award.

Barry is a member of the Varuna Alumni Association. He holds a diploma from the Fundación César Egido Serrano and the Museo de la Palabra, and is one of their ambassadors.
