Barry has been writing short fiction professionally for over ten years. He’s from Liverpool in the UK, and is based in Footscray in Melbourne’s western suburbs. His work is published in Australia and overseas and has been recognised in a number of literary awards and competitions, including the Overland Victoria University Short Story Prize, the Museo De La Palabra International Flash Fiction Competition, the inaugural City Of Melbourne Lord Mayor’s Creative Writing Awards (an initiative to mark Melbourne’s status as a UNESCO City Of Literature), the Bridport Prize (UK), and The Age Short Story Awards. His first collection of linked short fiction has been developed with support from the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and from a fellowship at Varuna, the National Writers House.
As well as Elwood Writers, he is a member of the Roomers writing workshops, and the Varuna Alumni Association. He holds a flash fiction diploma from the Fundación César Egido Serrano and the Museo de la Palabra, and is one of their 2018 Ambassadors.
