Helen McDonald

Helen is based in Woodend, in country Victoria, and writes poetry, memoir and short stories. She has been most recently published in failed haiku – a journal of English Senryu (US), Under the Same Moon, Fourth Australian Haiku Anthology, Unusual Work, collective effort press, Creatrix WA Poets, and 20 Artists Handwritten Issue One, 20 Literary Pieces by 20 Port Phillip Artists. Other publications which include her work are American Writers Review (US), Oxygen, Poetry D’Amour, and Drifting Sands on-line haibun journal (US), Poetry Matters, Love’s Footprint and  Short and Twisted.  Helen was a prize recipient in the 2019 Poetry Matters ‘Runaway World’ competition.

Helen’s writing appears in Elwood Writers’ anthology Every Second Tuesday – Stories by Elwood Writers.

Spoken word achievements include featured poet and three times winner of Poet of the Month at regional Victoria’s Chamber Poets, and winner of the Woodend Winter Arts Festival Poetry in the Pub competition (2018).  Helen regularly broadcasts on Vision Australia Radio’s Cover to Cover program, as part of Elwood Writers’ occasional programs.

Helen has spent her working life in public relations and communications, particularly in the not-for-profit sector, and for many years was a volunteer English tutor assisting migrants and refugees with their communication skills.
