Our story

Our story began in June 2007 when Jennifer and Barry met at a literary event in Glen Eira, Melbourne. They bonded quickly over a shared love of writing and began to meet regularly to discuss their work. Before long, they were joined by Helen and Margaret, and in time the group became Elwood Writers, taking its name from the seaside location of its fortnightly meetings.

Though Jennifer is no longer with us, in her lifetime she created a significant body of work, and lives on not only through her writing but also her achievements in the musical arts. For us, she will forever be the heart of Elwood Writers.

Our writing spans a variety of genres, and is recognised and published widely in Australia and overseas. A selection of our work can be found in the anthology Every Second Tuesday | Stories by Elwood Writers, published by Rightword Enterprises (November 2020).

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live and write. We pay our respects to their cultures and stories, and to their elders, past, present and emerging.
